Bert Hansen

Bert Hansen is a Professor of the History of Science at Baruch College in New York; he has also taught at SUNY- Binghamton, the University of Toronto, and New York University. A graduate of Columbia University and Princeton, he began his research career focusing on science during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.  While spending a year at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, he began an examination of American medicine and public health of the 19th and 20th centuries.  He has written several books on the topic, including Picturing Medical Progress from Pasteur to Polio: A History of Mass Media Images and Popular Attitudes in America.  Several of his scholarly articles have been reprinted in undergraduate textbooks.
